We're now a couple of months removed from the last State of Play — the one with Ghost of Yotei — and so we're starting to see eager PlayStation fans clamouring for another event.
The good news is that we might be getting one. While there hasn't been any official word on the subject — what else do you expect from this generation's ultra-secretive Sony? — we do have a tease from one of the industry's most reliable insiders.
billbil-kun, who has a frankly outstanding track record when it comes to PlayStation-related leaks, says that "fresh news" is coming — although he doesn't fully commit to saying that an actual event is on the horizon.
The French-speaking leaker writes: "A PlayStation event is really happening soon? I don't have the answer, but many PlayStation stuff are being prepared behind the scenes."
Earlier this month, fans latched onto a PlayStation ad that seemed to suggest such an event — but Jeff Grubb, another of the industry's most prominent insiders, was quick to put a dampener on things. He basically advised against hoping for a December show.
So what's going on? Honestly, trying to anticipate Sony's next move is near impossible these days — especially when it comes to public-facing information. But if billbil-kun says that something's happening in the background, then we're inclined to believe him.
As always, we'll just have to wait and see...

- Yes, I'm a believer
- Nah, but I would like Sony to do *something*
- No, and I don't care anyway

I’m guessing they’re prepping for trailers to be sent to the Game Awards. At this point in the year, that’s sort of “the end” of the gaming calendar for a good three weeks or so for the holidays where news gets slow and it’s just a bunch of GotY talk. Which I like! But it’d be odd if Sony (and Nintendo, as rumored) buck that trend to announce things right before the holiday.
I am high on cope
There is no special event
I will believe it when it happens. That said nows as good as time as any and showing off Ghost, DS2 and maybe Wolverine or Venom off for 2025 in a big showcase complete with a GTA 6 trailer running on the Pro could be a good mic drop.
An event is not happening. We'll be lucky if we get anything at the Game Awards.
My guess, trailers for game awards and then maybe a State of Play in February...
@DennisReynolds gta6 trailer running on the pro… at 30fps? 😉
My ambitious guess is a Venom trailer at TGA.
I really dont know, as its impossible to gauge how Sony does these things nowadays, but i certainly hope so!
It seems doubtful they’d have a big show so close to TGS. But on the other hand, if they will focus on 1st party it might work, since those games wouldn't be revealed at TGS in the first place.
All in all, it would be very fitting and coincide well with their 30th Anniversary. Do the right thing, Sony! 😉
@DennisReynolds
At 60fps please GTA 6 on Pro.
@OldGamer999 I won’t play GTA games since they force the online component (with those horrendous trophies…) into the trophy list, but it is something I’d play half heartedly on my alt account. That said, I doubt 60fps is possible even on Pro, but a 40hz mode would be a fantastic compromise for anyone with a VRR capable display (of which there are many nowadays).
BLOODBORNE 2 3 & 4 reveal
@OldGamer999 remind me again how powerful the cpu is in the pro? 😁
Seems unlikely unless they have partner obligations. I'd expect something early 2025 instead.
Lmao no, nothing is happening, at most we’ll get some Sony announcements at The Game Awards, it’s been 8 years since they last done an event in December.
Just seems like they'd show something at the Game Awards rather than stage their own show.
Redman featuring method man.whathever man is what i Will say to that.if it happens cool.but my backlog of video games is huge.and im chilling like a villain and having fun with my backlog of video games.word up son
@Neither_scene
We can only hope and wait and see.
@Balaam_ @OldGamer999 I think a lot of people forget the very uneven framerate every 3D GTA has ever launched at.
I know expectation have changed but while I would love a 40fps mode it may be as simple as GTA6 being sub-30fps on base consoles and a more stable 30fps on PS5 Pro. But who knows, perhaps Rockstar will sacrifice some quality and try and push performance for once.
@Balaam_
Yes good point at bare minimum 40fps with 120hz VRR would be better than nothing.
Especially if it was uncapped with 40fps being the minimum rate.
@themightyant
Did not realise how poor GTA games actually run.
But I really did notice whilst driving cars, very poor control and frame issues.
Would be great if true, would also be a great way to boost those holiday sales of the consoles. But I highly doubt a showcase is coming, not expecting much for the game awards either.
Update: he was on about Sony releasing the Dualsense Edge in black 😭 bloody insiders
@OldGamer999 Won't happen sadly its R*.
@OldGamer999 I remember getting a super fast bike in GTAV and then being almost immediately disappointed because I hit an invisible barrier that hadn't spawned it yet! Happened many times in crowded areas. lol
At the end of the day Rockstar like to really push what a system can do, I don't expect it to run at a stable 30fps. Even Red Dead 2 dropped to the mid-20s in busy areas. Even if they don't give additional options PS5 Pro should be the best place to play on console. Though I'm hoping for a 40fps mode.
Personally I think this year is written off. Currently PS UK pushing ads out using previously released games and trying to get PS4 players to move up and appeal to lapsed Playstation owners. There is lots of Black Friday game reductions.
The reality is Sony needs a nice solid 2025 with lots of games, and more importantly lots of different games. The people that like God of War and Horizon already own a PS5, but there is a huge untapped market of kids and families that Sony hasn’t been catering for. They are going to have to compete with the Switch 2 next year, and they need a showcase just after Nintendo to show they are just as if not more relevant in 2025.
Will it happen? I’m slightly doubtful.
I think something is coming there's a ton of evidence. Tga is usually earlier in the month, last time it wasn't was when Sony had a state of play for their 25th anniversary. There's that trailer that clearly teased the dec 3rd date. Sony did say they have more things to celebrate their 30th anniversary and we're at the end of if November. I think its going to be a pretty big event, sonny said 25 and 26 will be big years so it's time to show what's coming. I expect ghost 2 game play, gow spinoff and or Greek saga remake/remaster, and Ps5 version of 2018 to celebrate its 20th anniversary. Either naughty dog or Santa Monica new game, blue points new game, the horizon co-op game, new 2nd party titles, pragmata re-reveal, and the next resident evil. I think death stranding will be saved for the tga. I also could see PS3 ports announcement by nixxes. Also new plus announcements and mgs snake eaters release date.
@themightyant there should no reason why it can't hit 40 on the pro with vrr and all the bells and whistles , there's no doubt the pro will be the best place to play😁
@themightyant rockstar have absolutely no reason to sacrifice visual fidelity and dev time to provide a 60fps mode on consoles. From a marketing standpoint graphics trump frame rate and rockstar have never targeted 60fps at launch on consoles.
Red dead redemption 2 was still 30fps on Xbox one x despite it having an even greater power delta than the ps5 pro over the base console. One x owners just got a more consistent frame rate and higher resolution. I fully expect the same to be true with the ps5 pro.
The pc release will be capable of 60fps purely because of the hardware’s ability to brute force performance. GTA6 will probably follow the same porting lifecycle as GTA5 - 30fps this generation on console and 60fps when it inevitably gets patched or re-released for PS6.
@Neither_scene I never said they would run a 60fps mode, I don't think they will. But in 2024 expectations HAVE changed and running sub-30fps is not as acceptable as it once was during the PS1-4 era. Will be interesting to see how R* navigate that, if they do at all.
My money would currently still be on it running sub-30fps on base consoles, perhaps slightly more often at 30fps than their previous games which were often around 22 - 25fps. Then a more stable 30fps on Pro, possibly with a 40fps mode if they are willing to go the extra mile.
But the reality is we know almost nothing about this game, it is entirely up to them what they do.
I think MGS Delta is the big sign of something happening. It feels unlikely that Geoff would allow a Konami trailer at the Game Awards and even more unlikely that Nintendo announces Switch 2 this year which leaves these options if the game is still getting a release date announced this year:
The latter sounds more likely.
@Grumblevolcano Wait, what’s going on with Delta?
@somnambulance Back in August, it was revealed the release date was being announced this year.
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2024/08/metal-gear-solid-delta-snake-eaters-ps5-release-date-will-reportedly-break-cover-later-this-year
I choose "i'm a believer" because it sounds funny 🤣
@Grumblevolcano Ah, though Nintendo also said the Switch 2 would be announced this year, so I’m not sure how much stock I put into that. I was hoping for new news. I miss the industry being more transparent and… you know… announcing release dates…
@somnambulance Regarding Switch 2, Nintendo said for the fiscal year, not the calendar year so if they announced Switch 2 on March 31st 2025 it would still fit in with what was said back in May.
huffs some Bloodbornium cope
Bloodborne Remaster announcement coming
Sony more than likely isn't doing sh#t. This is the worst generation by a mile, and i would flush myself of all expectations and excitement. Because the Sony we have now will probably disappoint you.
There's nothing I'm a fan of what doesn't seem like the "fans" of that thing hate it more than they love it. Like, how do you all hate Sony and PlayStation so much?! It's always negative. Not saying you don't have a right to dislike things. But if it's on the level that some of you all (guy above me) always take it. Then why even bother?
Would love for Sony to get a good grasp on limiting these rumours because I feel like it kills any excitement when you know what will be revealed. You stop thinking about the upcoming shows and your mind is already on what will come after.
@AhmadSumadi This site has become less and less real/level/objective and is very hyper critical. It is a big echo chamber where there is no in-between.
Things are either the end of the world and hyper negative or extremely positive and head in the clouds. Though, as of late, everything has just been negative.
I think people forgot that the first ever PlayStation experience came in 2014,the same year where they were celebrating the 20th anniversary in december 7,here the link for those who don't know what i'm talking about:https://blog.playstation.com/2014/10/10/youre-invited-playstation-experience-event-in-december/. So i do believe that something big is coming maybe a new sort of big event,also reminder the style of state of play has quite changed since the one in may 30.
@Grumblevolcano Fair enough. I wouldn’t put it past Keighley to have it at the Game Awards. Even if he’s homies with Kojima. Only so many developers can afford 500k+ on an ad and Konami can. I just hope we see games for 2025 announced with release dates soon. The last TGA practically pegged most announcements as 2025 releases.
They better have something in store for us, Patience has limits.
@Mikey856 released in reverse order naturally
@AhmadSumadi I think those people are consuming too much negative news from grifters. That's why you always see negatives attitude from them.
Nothing until 1Q 2025, unless its something for the Game Awards.
A new PlayStation 5 pro Max and two more color variations of the controller
30th anniversary for playstation they might have something for next month
It's wild that we've been having PlayStation showcase rumours for like three years or something. They even had a showcase during that time but it was rubbish so everyone just kept rumouring that there'd be another one to make up for it. We're still at it. Hermen Hulst is probably laughing his back off seeing how long he can get away with it.
A showcase makes perfect sense as does a Bloodborne remaster but Sony doesn't do wise decisions anymore hence putting out a 400 million live service flop no one asked for amongst other things... Like remastering last of us 1 84 times
